Anyone, anywhere in the world. The AEA is open to everyone who has an interest in environmental archaeology. You do not require a qualification to become a member, nor do you have to be an actively practicing environmental archaeologist. The AEA encourages people to join from around the world.
Our membership offering provides for two levels of members and two types of membership, providing four possible combinations. Members may be either waged or unwaged/student. Membership may be print+digital or digital-only. The two memberships are identical with the exception that print+digital members will receive a physical printed copy of the journal, whilst digital-only members will not.
Membership is paid online by card. After completing the membership form, you will be provided with a payment link.
AEA membership works on a calendar year basis. Each year's membership runs from 1st January to 31st December. Most existing members renew their membership in early January. You can join any time in the year though, see below for the options and benefits of doing so.
The AEA has different options available based on the point in the year you join. The framework is set out below, and in all cases the months are inclusive:
Joining in January to June
Membership is for the current year and all membership options are available (waged/unwaged, print+digital/digital-only)
Joining in July to October
Membership is for the current year and membership is limited to digital-only options (this is because the end of June is the journal printing cut-off)
Joining in November to December
Membership is for the next year and all membership options are available; in addition digital-only membership for the remainder of the current year will be included free-of-charge
